Study shows estrogen keeps your blood vessels toned
November 11, 2021 – RADfertility News

Dr. Ron Feinberg and Dr. Megan Wenner stopped for a brief photo together during a site visit at RADfertility’s Newark Office.
Dr. Ron Feinberg, RADfertility Nurse Practitioner, Katie Haigh and our research team have been collaborating with University of Delaware physiologist and Associate Professor Megan Wenner, PhD, on research designed to understand the influence the hormone estrogen has on vascular function. Hormones are the chemical messengers for our bodies that communicate with our brains, heart, bones, muscles and even our reproductive organs. The goal of this research is to properly identify the ways estrogen impacts vascular function in women. Specifically, this study focuses on comparing the vascular effects estrogen has in young and postmenopausal women.
Dr. Wenner serves as the Director of the Women’s Cardiovascular Research Lab in the Department of Kinesiology and Applied Physiology at UD, where her research focuses on cardiovascular health in women throughout the lifespan. She and her team study mechanisms that contribute to vascular dysfunction in women as they age, and the role estrogen may play in maintaining vascular health.
Recently, research conducted from their work in a group of premenopausal women, age 18 to 30 years old, was published in the American Journal of Physiology. A corresponding podcast hit the airwaves for further discussion about the results. Dr. Wenner’s collaboration with RADfertility continues as they look to the perimenopausal and postmenopausal population.
