May 31, 2022 – Making a Difference
At RADfertility, we understand that infertility can be a very isolating disease to face. It is important to know you are not alone. The purpose of the Making a Difference series is to highlight the dedicated organizations and individuals in the community available to help you on your journey.

Lauren Soto
Author & RADfertility Patient
Our patient community is filled with extraordinary people doing extraordinary things. Lauren Soto is a wife and mother to three RADfertility babies! She had two children when she met her husband and after three years of secondary infertility, they decided to move forward with in vitro fertilization (IVF). There are millions of people brought into the world in this special way. And Lauren knows this means there are millions of parents who may want an easy way to explain the IVF process to their children. Learn more about Lauren and her new children’s book, Ice Ice Baby, which shows these kids just how special they are!

What inspired you to write this children’s book?
Elsa (lol). My kids have this Elsa canvas picture in their room and one day when my daughter was about 2 she was talking about the picture and I told her she used to be frozen like Elsa. Then, of course, I had some explaining to do. After doing a quick search, I was surprised to see so few books for kids about IVF. I knew other kids would have questions and parents may struggle with how to address them and thus my inspiration to write a book was born.
How did you come up with the name, Ice Ice Baby?
I didn’t want to use “Frozen” and potentially get in trouble with Disney so I brainstormed other names and came up with this one. Hopefully Vanilla Ice doesn’t mind.
What are some of your family’s favorite children’s books?
I loved to read as a kid and it’s so cool to see some of my old favorites are now my kids’ favorites. We love Miss Nelson is Missing! by Harry Allard, Splish Splash! by Gail Herman, and The One Year Devotions for Preschoolers by Crystal Bowman.
What do you hope kids will take away from the story?
I hope kids can be informed about how they were created, see how awesome it is to be an Ice Ice Baby, and realize just how special and loved they are.
What advice do you have for women facing infertility challenges?
Know that you’re not alone! Even if everyone in your circle is having kids left and right and no one you know seems to be struggling- one in eight is having a hard time. Reach out to a support group. Open up to your friends and family about your challenges. You may be surprised to learn some of them may be dealing with infertility as well. At the very least they can be more sensitive to your situation and the more people talk about it the more informed and supportive everyone can be.
What is the most important thing to remember when going through the fertility care process?
Have support. We’re not meant to do life alone, especially when times are hard and fertility care is HARD.
Tell us something people might not know about Lauren Soto.
I’m pretty much an open book (pun intended) but I wasn’t always. I’ve learned that life is easier when we share our ups and downs with others. Sharing helps us build and strengthen bonds and I’m grateful to have been able to help others during their infertility challenges.
Is there anything we didn’t mention that you feel is important for others to know about you and your new book?
Be on the lookout for more books in the future!
